Residency artists to show work in the Greenhouse and in individual studios throughout Creekside Arts
Also on hand: locals Marceau Verdiere, Thomas Fossier, Tanya Bullwinkle, and Rich McCutchan
James Zeller and Katie Belknap (Ponies of Harmony) will be back, along with other local musicians and poets to entertain visitors both afternoons

Creekside Artist Jon Fischer

Presents Watersheds of Humboldt and SF Bay Friday, June 9, 6:00-8:00

Through his ongoing work as a screen printer and his collaborations with musicians and textile artists, Jon Fischer creates cross disciplinary art that engages multiple senses. This exhibition represents the culmination of his exploration of Humboldt Bay during three residencies at Creekside Arts in Eureka

Workshops

Drawing in Nature with Creekside Artist Susan D'Amato
Wednesday, June 7 2:00-5:00

A 3-hour afternoon drawing workshop to take place in the woods surrounding Creekside Arts.

The workshop will focus on mark-making with either brush markers, brush, and ink, or hand-carved sticks and ink.

Begining with experiential textural exercises, followed by looking at examples from Japanese woodblocks and their influence on VanGogh’s wonderful reed and ink landscape drawings.

Explore how to create a vocabulary of marks (through the textural and observational exercises and historical examples) to employ at different scales and spatial applications while developing a complex observational landscape drawing.

Learn about compositional thumbnail studies, and proportions, to aid in compositional balance and pictorial interest.

Environmental Art Workshop with Lucy Wright Rivers
July 8 10:00-3:00 $30 fee includes lunch

Back by popular demand…

Two sessions, morning and afternoon. Morning at grounds of Creekside Arts, afternoon along logging road in the redwoods.

Morning session will involve discussion of and experimentation with conceptual aspects of responding creatively to the environment, using materials found on site to create lines and forms. There will be demonstrations of hand construction techniques for use in the manipulation of live plants, for example braiding.

Afternoon session will include walking into the redwoods along a logging road and exploring individual projects/responses to that more wild/less ordered environment. Projects would be up to the participants and might include the use of piling sticks, braiding and/or twisting living plants, etching into road-cuts or stumps, rearranging rocks/gravel along the road.

Space is limited.

Self-guided residencies and retreats

Creekside Arts’ self guided residencies offer a unique opportunity to reflect, create and explore in an inspiring setting among the Redwoods of Northern California. Preference will be given to applications that demonstrate a project focus on what is dear to our community: Land, place, community, nature, climate, education, and social and political consciousness.
