April 2024 - Featured Artists, Marceau Gallery, Spring Poetry

Seven amazing artists are coming to our spring residency in May. This month we are featuring Thandiwe Wilson and Marshall Sharpe

Thandiwe Wilson

Thandiwe Wilson studies English with a concentration in Creative Writing at Howard University and will be graduating in May 2024.
Her visceral and descriptive style of writing comes from Thandiwe’s intentionality in each word placed on the page.
Her work has been performed in multiple readings such as the 804 Reading Salon in Washington, C.C. and the Final Reading at Howard University. Thandiwe’s personal passion is developing creative communities. She has done this by holding multiple film experiences and open mic nights. All of which showcase emerging African-American artists including painters, sculptors, spoken word artists, fashion designers and musicians around the D.C. area.
She held two of these events as the Co-Director of BURN Experience and held four of these events as Director of Sankofa Open Mic Nights. Thandiwe’s passion for horror through the Black gaze comes from her interest in the raw fear of reality for people within the African Diaspora.

Recent Student Exhibits at Gallery Marceau

Gallery Marceau was honored to host four amazing exhibits featuring art students from North Coast Preparatory Academy in March and April. It was a wonderful opportunity to see the incredible talent and creativity of these young artists. Participating were Aisha Pevec, Wynn Pevec, Simone Leach, and Evan Dunbar.

As we reflect on the success of each of these exhibits, Creekside Arts eagerly anticipates hosting more dynamic showcases in the future.

Marceau Verdiere
The Itoshima Paintings

Creekside Arts’ own Marceau Verdiere will present his exhibit “The Itoshima paintings”. These works were created in Itoshima Japan while Marceau was an artist in residence at Studio Kura, in February of 2022. A Victor Joacoby Award recipient, Marceau went to Japan to gain a deeper understanding of the Japanese Aesthetic philosophy of Wabi Sabi. The works presented are translation of his learning and reflections of his time there.
