February 2024 - Libby Palmquist Fiber Arts Scholarship, Spring Residency, Plays by Edward Albee, Kaari Wallerich Residency, and more

The Flood

January was a wet month. On Jan. 2, more than 4 inches of rain fell over a 24 hour period, causing Freshwater Creek to overflow into the adjacent field. The flood came up to 4 feet in some areas. By late afternoon the current was so strong we had to suspend canoe rides for hours. Miraculously (and consistently) the road was clear by the following morning. Most of us enjoyed a day off. Some had an adventurous canoe ride to talk about at work or school. That’s Calder ferrying a group to shore. On January 31 it flooded again for a few hour. We are all fine here. We have canoe trips to talk about!

Our current artist in residence Kaari Wallerich

Besides spending 5 or more hours a day painting, Kaari joined  neighborhood gatherings and art discussions with local artists in our BAAM group. She culminated her residency with an open studio event.

Kaari: I am grateful for my time at Creekside Arts. I sought an immersive experience and time to reflect on my creative process, which is exactly what transpired! The Creekside Arts community was welcoming and supportive throughout. The studio, in particular, was so inspiring, located in a lush, wooded setting. I painted daily and came away with a much clearer focus and sense of purpose with my work.
